Description
Another Language Performing Arts Company, in early 1986, consisted of Artistic Director Elizabeth Miklavcic, dancers Wendy Thompson and Geneva Ann Moss, and Technical Director Jimmy Miklavcic. This was the Company's first educational lecture-demonstration, titled The Use of Sets and Props in the Choreographic Process. Company member Wendy Thompson was teaching dance at Murray High School and she organized this presentation for her advanced class.

The objective of this lecture-demonstration was to give the dancers a broader application for incorporating sets and props into choreography. Elizabeth, having viewed many concerts, would often see a table or some other kind of set put into a dance, used briefly, and then just sit there on the stage taking up space. It didn't make any sense. Her objective, as a choreographer, when incorporating external objects in a choreographic work, was to develop an integrated purpose for that set or prop to be on the stage. She wanted to share some ideas about how choreography could be more creative by blending together the elements of dance and stagecraft.
