Description
The outline, structure, and intension of the lecture-demonstration The Use of Sets and Props in the Choreographic Process was very similar to the Murray High School presentation that was given a month previously. The pace was improved and some dances were added, while others were removed. The most successful aspect of this presentation was having the students come up on the stage and move around in projected light designs. The stage lighting was done using a slide projector and artistic glass slides created by Jimmy Miklavcic.

This presentation was held at South High School (1575 South State Street) in a large proscenium theater, a very fun place to showcase this lecture demonstration. Performing the dances in the larger venue enhanced the staging, and the integration of the set pieces into the choreography.

It is difficult to understand what Elizabeth is saying as she stands on the stage talking to the dance students in the audience. The video camera was up in the technical booth, quite a distance away, and she was not miked. Much of this video is nearly impossible to see since it was shot in low light with an old betamax video camera. When Elizabeth transcoded this video in 2001, the tape in the cassette was loosing magnetic pieces. Transcoded just in time, Elizabeth and Jimmy are pleased to have any record of the hard work that went into developing and presenting this event.

South High was closed in 1988, and then reopened in 1992 as Salt Lake Community College's South City Campus.
