Abby Fiat's Adagio (1989)

Choreographer: Abby Fiat
Dancers: Elizabeth A. Miklavcic and 4th Level Technique Class
Location: University of Utah Modern Dance Department Theatre 208
Length: 2:04 minutes
Description
Faculty member Abby Fiat gives a brief introduction of the fourth level technique class for a showcase to non-majors and Modern Dance majors at the University of Utah. Abby's movement style was challenging, since there was a lot of balancing, quick change of direction while simultaneously maintaining control and resistance. The dancer needed to be able to quickly change direction, balance and hold the lower body still while the upper body rotated around the spinal axis. This movement phrase was considered an adagio. Elizabeth Miklavcic was completing her Masters In Fine Arts thesis during this time, and can be seen wearing a black unitard.

The stage space was in the large dance studio #208 on the main floor in the old dance building. Originally the University's HYPER building, this large studio was the basketball court for Physical Education students. This building was torn down when the new dance building was opened in 1990 on a different campus location. The 1989 videos, are some of the last events that took place in the Old Dance Building.
