Abby Fiat's Locomotor (1989)

Choreographer: Abby Fiat
Dancers: Elizabeth A. Miklavcic and 4th Level Technique Class
Location: University of Utah Modern Dance Department Theatre 208
Length: 1:34 minutes
Description
The second demonstration for the end of the year University of Utah Modern Dance Department showcase consisted of a short locomotor pattern. Choreographed by Abby Fiat for her fourth level technique class, this phrase was created to develop specific strengths in the dancers at that level. Abby states in her opening explanation, "This is an extension of the previous adagio for the purposes of hitting a pose and living through that pose instead of panicking." In a technique class, this pattern would be repeated over and over, as well as executed on the other side to build strength and stamina. Elizabeth Miklavcic was completing her Masters In Fine Arts thesis during this time, and can be seen wearing a black unitard.

The stage space was in the large dance studio #208 on the main floor in the old dance building. Originally the University's HYPER building, this large studio was the basketball court for Physical Education students. This building was torn down when the new dance building was opened in 1990 on a different campus location. The 1989 videos, are some of the last events that took place in the Old Dance Building.
