Mountains In The Storm #6 (2022) | Photograph by Elizabeth Miklavcic |
Sunlight broke through the storm highlighting the Salt Lake Valley's western Oquirrh (Oak-er) Mountains. Dynamic weather was occurring all over the valley on November 9, 2022. In some areas the sun was shining, in other places it was snowing, creating compelling compositions. On the right is an area of the mountain range where the Rio Tinto mine is located. Covered in snow it looks like some strange, futuristic city. It was an incredible day to be outside photographing and observing nature’s grace. The name Oquirrh is actually a Goshute Indian word that means Wooded Mountain. The range consists of a string of 10,000 foot peaks that run north to south for nearly 30 miles.
