Description
Elizabeth had been invited for a two week residency by full-time dance instructor Jeanne Travers to choreograph a dance for the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Kentucky. She had only ten days to set a fourteen minute work on seventeen High School students, grades 9-12, of varying skill levels. This video was taken the evening of the final dress rehearsal before the opening performance. The concept of the dance was about taking on a task, completing that task, and then, out of doing that task, what happens next? Did all that work go anywhere? Achieve anything? This concept applied to the high school performers, especially the seniors who were now looking toward what was next for them in their lives. This concept also applied personally to Elizabeth, because she continually worked incredibly hard on her dancing and choreography craft, but where was all that work leading? Even with all the conceptual life questions framed in Out of this Comes..., the point for the dancers and the marionette characters they represented, was to continue to move forward, interact, and work together to carry on for whatever the future had in store. |
