Description
This dance was co-created by Christopher Murry Ivins and Elizabeth Miklavcic, for the Another Language Performing Arts Company On The Gutting Ledge concert. It is a collage of kitsch, connected by moments of things that they'd always wanted to do such as jump on bubble wrap, sing badly in front of people, and dance in flashing black light.

Elements of popular culture are entwined in the composition as a social commentary. Such as Elizabeth being manipulated like a doll, then she in turn manipulates Christopher. The playful dynamic between the two, masked as humor, underlines something a little darker, a power struggle between male and female, as the two characters journey through a pop culture fantasy, that is their shared reality.

An utterly baffling component of the concert is the piece 'Goober in Your Galoshes,' including movement, dance, music, distorted sound and familiar snippets ingrained in Americans' cultural consciousness from the products of mass media. The piece can be seen as being made up of 'non-connected motifs,' as if a number of old home movies had been spliced together. Whatever one may try to classify it as, it is fascinating and not easily dismissed. Cuman David Cropper - The Daily Utah Chronicle (06/01/90)
