Description
Glances of Women was choreographed by Abby Fiat for the University of Utah Modern Dance Department's Performing Danscompany in 1989. This dance centers around Abby's story, and the women in Abby's life. The choreography shares memories of struggle and triumph, represented by movement and recorded text. Through experience and example, this dance pays homage to Abby's upbringing. It represents the positive and challenging influences that strong, loving, and resourceful women have in the make-up of the next generation.

Most of the dancers in this piece are either graduate students or seniors, taught by this amazing, incredibly gifted, creative, talented, and genuinely kind member of the Modern Dance Faculty. The skill level of the performers is extremely high for a cast made up of students. In 1989, Elizabeth was finishing up her written Masters Thesis, and completing her third extensive modern dance historical research paper. Abby had invited Elizabeth to participate in her wonderful dance, where she played the part of Grandma Jessie. Having the opportunity to work with Abby Fiat, and performing at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah Campus, was a highlight, and the culmination of the three years of graduate work Elizabeth undertook to earn her Masters Degree.
