Description
In the American West the wide open skies provide an opportunity to observe weather behavior. In this dance, Elizabeth Miklavcic created a motional interpretation of these observations. Storm opens with a soloist who represents an incoming storm, she is the warning before the wind kicks up and the sky darkens. The entering dancers circle and gather together in a group just as clouds form before they burst with rain. There is a constant churning to the movements, lifts, and circular locomotor patterns in this dance, representing unsettled weather. When the movement begins to settle or slow down, the soloist interacts and initiates more action. She, as the head wind, reactivates the storm clouds into movement again. Elizabeth choreographed this dance on the Judge Memorial High School dance company as the culmination of a two week residency that she and Jimmy Miklavcic ran through the Utah Arts Council Artists in Education program. This residency was sponsored by the school dance instructor Jeanette Sawaya. The audio chip on the Another Language Performing Arts Company's Canon L1 Hi 8mm video camera was failing again, after several expensive repairs, which is why the viewer will hear clipping in the audio track. |
